Literature Text

It was a beautiful morning in Ponyville and Spike was assissting his friend, Twilight Sparkle, find a spell book that could possibly have something that Twi could use to send Dan back home. The little dragon sighed as he handed the mare another book. She skimmed through the table of contents and then tossed it aside.

"No 'teleporting' spell in that one either. Spike, can you go get that green book for me please?"

Spike climbed up the ladder and fetched the book Twi requested. "Man, I hope we find a spell to get Dan outta here soon."

"Spike, that wasn't a very nice thing to say. Dan is our guest."

"Yeah, and a mean one at that." Spike grumbled as he slid down the ladder, holding the green book.

"Now Spike," Twilight scolded. "Mind your words."

"Well, it's true! I mean, he's rude to just about everypony!" exclaimed the purple and green dragon.

"Yes, he does a bit of an...attitude problem. But it is still not right to say such things about him."

"Why not? It's  not like anypony really likes him all that much. Heck, he and Rainbow Dash are practically enemies already!"  stated Spike.

"Although it's true that Dash and Dan don't see eye to eye, it's NOT true that nopony likes him. Pinkie Pie really takes an interest in him." Twi disagreed.

Spike huffed a bit. "Yeah, well, I mean, Pinkie likes everypony though."

"Well, Rarity, Applejack and Fluttershy don't hate him."

"Because they hardly know him. They haven't spent as much time with Dan as you, me and Pinkie have." Spike pointed out.

"The other ponies and colts in Ponyville don't really know him so they don't hate him either."

"Okay, okay! I guess I exaggerated a bit when I said that nopony really likes him. Look, I am just tired of him buggin' me." Spike admitted.

"I'm sorry he gets on your nerves Spike but I'm sure with time he'll get better. Kind of gotta give him some slack though. I mean, he IS pretty far from home you know. He hardly knows anypony here too."

Spike sighed. "Alright, you got a point, Twi. I'm sorry for what I said about Dan earlier."

Twilight smiled, happy that the dragon was no longer upset. "Good. Tell you what, let's take a break here and go to the mines and get you some gems to eat."

A big grin stretched across Spike's face. "Really?! Thanks a bunch Twi!"

Twilight used her magic to get her saddlebag. "Alright, we got our supplies."

"Great! Well, what are we doing standing around here? Let's go!" Spike exclaimed as he bolted toward the door.

"Wait!" said Twi, stopping Spike in his tracks. "What about Dan? Shouldn't we invite him too?"

"Don't bother." said a voice from the top of the stairs.

"Woah!" a startled  Spike shouted as he hid behind Twilight.

"Relax, Spike. It's just Dan." Twilight said.

Twi turned her attention towards Dan. She was 99.9% sure that he wouldn't want to come with her and Spike but it'd be rude to not at least ask. She cleared her throat.

"So Dan, would you like to come along with me and Spike to get some gems?"

Dan rolled his eyes. "Pfft, nah. You two go out and have fun hunting jewels or whatever. That  ain't really my thing."

"Well, okay. We'll be back in a few hours. What are you going to do in the meantime?" asked Twi.

Dan shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. Maybe chill here. Maybe go for walk. Whatever I feel like doing."

"Alright then. Have fun. See you later." Twi said, trotting towards the door.

"C'mon, c'mon!" Spike pleaded. "Let's go! I haven't had gems to eat in forever!"

"OK,OK Spike. Calm down." Twilight said. "Well, bye Dan!"

"See ya, Sparkler." Dan smirked. "Later, Football."

Spike shot him a glare but just walked out the door with Twilight close behind him.  As soon as he was alone, Dan let out a long sigh of relief. Alone time is just what he needed. He's hardly had any since he came to Ponyville.

"Well I finally got some time to myself. Question is, what to do?"

Dan thought about watching a re-run of one of his favorite TV shows but then remembered that there weren't any televisions in Equestria. Maybe he could take a drive around town. Oh wait. No cars. He looked around at the hundreds of books that were perfectly aligned on Twilight's bookshelf. He thought about reading one, but then laughed at the very idea. Reading was NOT a hobby of Dan's.

"Ugh, man. I'm sooo bored." complained Dan. "What the heck do ponies do for fun?"

After thinking about it for a while, Dan decided to go for a walk or trot or whatever it's called. Without bothering to make his bed, comb his mane or turn off the lights, he left the tree home. For a moment, Dan pondered which direction to walk in. He finally came to conclusion to walk in the opposite direction of Ponyville. After all, the whole reason he was going on this walk was to get AWAY  from all the ponies and colts.

"Finally. Some peace and quiet."  Dan said to himself as he trotted along the dirt path.

After trotting for about thirty minutes or so, Dan sat down in a grassy field, the very one where he showed up at when he got zapped into Equestria.  For a minute he just sat there, taking in the scenery. Then he laid back and stared up at the puffy, white clouds above him.  One cloud that floated by looked like a monkey's head. Suddenly Dan was reminded of his best friend, Chris who was back home in another dimension.  Even though Ponyville wasn't COMPLETELY horrible, Dan still felt pretty homesick.

"Man," Dan groaned. "I hate this."

"Hate what?" said a high, bubbly voice.

"GAH!" Dan nearly jumped out of his skin. A wave of relief washed over him when he saw that it was just Pinkie Pie.

Pinkie giggled. "Oopsie! Did I scare ya?"

"Heck yeah! Sheesh!  Give a guy a warning, would ya?"

"Sorry about that." apologized Pinkie. "So whatcha doin' out here?"

"Enjoying some time alone. Or at least I was...What are YOU doing here? Were you following me or something?"

"No, silly!" chuckled Pinkie. "I was just picking some berries to make  blueberry muffins! Hey! You wanna help me make some?"

Dan sighed. "Look, kid. No offense, but I just ain't in the mood for baking, alright?"

"Oh, okay." replied Pinkie as she set down her basket.

She trotted right next to Dan and sat down, looking up at the sky with him.  Blissful silence filled the air for a moment. However, if you ever spent even a second with Pinkie Pie, you should know that quietness doesn't last long with her around. The poofy-haired mare jumped up.

"Hey, Dan. I was thinking that maybe you and I could, um,  hang out today. What do ya think?"

Dan's first thought was to say no because he hasn't had any alone time lately. However, he also didn't want to be alone with his thoughts of home and his friends.  Dan thought about it for a bit, then came to his conclusion.

"Yeah, alright. Got nothin' better to do."
Behold! Chapter 13! lol wow I know I said this a hundred times but I CAN'T BELIEVE I GOT THIS FAR. 0_0 I usually stop after a couple of chapters with my other stories. (Of which are not on DA but on another site) Anywayz, I apologize for any grammar or spelling mistakes. I am also sorry if you don't like this chapter. :( Oh and I think at one point, maybe in a journal entry, I said that this story was probably only gonna be like 15 chapters...well that's most likely not gonna happen. It'll be more than that. I should have this whole story done before or right after Thanksgiving.

I'm also thinking of writing a Dan x Pinkie Christmas story too when the holiday rolls around. So please don't stop following me after Opposites Attract is done. ;)
